Overbrook Hall Rededicated to Honor James W. Moore, S.J.

The longtime service of James W. Moore, S.J. was recognized by Saint Joseph's University on October 1 with the rededication of Overbrook Hall in his honor. The ceremony, which included remarks from William Madges, Ph.D., dean of the College of Arts and Sciences; Tiffany Conde '09 (New Cumberland, Pa.); Provost Brice Wachterhauser, Ph.D., and University President Timothy R. Lannon, S.J., took place on the steps in front of the renamed Moore Hall.

Fr. Moore retired in May after 45 years on Hawk Hill, having impacted thousands of students, faculty, and staff during his tenure. He began his career as director of admissions in 1963 and later spent 30 years as the associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

"To have a student dorm named for me is a kind of crowning moment in my life here at Saint Joseph's University," stated Fr. Moore. "I am very pleased to have my name placed on one of them."

"Fr. Moore is the kind of individual who touches lives," said Wachterhauser. "I think in many ways he is the personification of cura personalis, and he combines that cura personalis with the Jesuit ideal of Magis – seeking for himself and for others, always the more, always the greater."

Fr. Moore was presented with the Rev. Joseph S. Hogan, S. J., award in 2002 in recognition of his "exemplification of Christian principles and outstanding loyal service to Saint Joseph's University."

Congrats Fr. Moore! Ad multos annos!

Of course no Jesuit ever really retires, and Fr. Moore finds time every Saturday morning to lead our group in the Spiritual Exercises -- inside or outside ;-)
